POLLENZA. A spectacular debut
by IWS

Count Aldo Brachetti Peretti, chairman and managing director of the well-known petroleum company API and patron of the new, monumental Tolentino estate in Macerata province, was satisfied. For he had received many compliments during the gala dinner organized last June 11 to inaugurate his entry into winemaking in fine style.

The project was begun, in February 2001, and completed in four years. A bit earlier, Carlo Guerrieri Gonzaga, his close friend, had advised him during a flight over the family estate to plant a vineyard on the delightful hills of the Marches.

The proposal was accepted and the result is a technologically advanced winery – with 25 glass-lined cement tanks – whose external architectural design harmonizes with the elegant 18th-century style of the zone. The structure, with two elegant arcades on the left and right sides of the facade, was constructed with the bricks originally used in building the pre-existing farmhouse of the 18th century.

Vines, prevalently noble international varieties (Cabernet Sauvignon and Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot) and the Italian grape Sangiovese, plus a few acres of Syrah and Pinot Noir, grow on about 50 hectares (123.5 acres). Among the white varieties are Malvasia, Trebbiano, Maceratino, Sauvignon Blanc, Traminer Aromatico and Semillon.

In their conversation, Guerrieri Gonzaga told his friend Brachetti Peretti: "Only a few years ago, you were abstemious and now you are producing a wine of this caliber as the result of an extraordinary effort and great enthusiasm. You are surrounded by top-flight technicians in whom you have confidence. You have given them independence but also precise targets to be reached rapidly."
